Andrew is employed with AIG South Africa and is currently the Marine Loss Control Engineering Manager for Africa and Middle East. He has been employed with AIG since beginning 2012. He is a qualified Master Mariner, who prior to 2012, had a career at sea which spanned 22 years.
His role as Marine loss control engineering manager includes working closely with underwriters, brokers and clients advising on risk management of cargo shipments, storage facilities, cargo terminals etc. He has presented papers on various aspects of risk management in the marine Insurance Industry at various conferences both in South Africa and abroad. Prior to joining AIG in February 2012, he worked in many spheres of the sea going maritime industry consisting of General cargo on Multi Purpose Vessels, Bulk cargoes, Refined Products Petroleum tankers, container Ships and Ro-Ro vessels. He commenced his seagoing career with Unicorn Lines in 1990 with a cadetship of 4 years before qualifying as a junior deck officer in 1993. He worked for various shipping companies around the world before culminating in being appointed Master in 2003, a position he held till end 2011.
He has a National Higher Diploma in Maritime studies and has also completed a diploma in Marine Surveying through Lloyds. He matriculated from Jeppe High School for Boys in 1986.
